Care for your Pepeny

Q: Can I wash my Pepeny?
A: Yes, you can.Use a mild detergent (not bleach or nappywash!) in warm water. When the detergent is dissolved, coil the Pepeny so that it will fit into the base of the wash bowl. Then gently massage the fabric until all grime is removed.
When you lift the Pepeny out of the bowl be careful to ensure that you pick it up as a coil and gently squeeze out the suds. Using warm water, rinse until the water is clear. Every Pepeny is colour fast.

Do not stretch the fabric unnecessarily.

Hang the Pepeny to drip dry, using the tapes. DO NOT use a tumble drier or excessive heat.

Q: My Pepeny has not been used for a while and looks misshapen. Can I fix it?
A: Yes, you can. Immerse the Pepeny in hot water (making it into a coil per above). Let it sit for a few minutes. When the water is hand hot, start at one end of the frame and and work towards the other end of the frame, straightening it as you go. If there are any minor kinks in the frame, gently manipulate these until the frame is straightened.

Hang the Pepeny to drip dry, using the tapes. DO NOT use a tumble drier or excessive heat.

Your Pepeny should be as good as new. However, if the Pepeny has been mishandled and the ‘memory core’ snapped or the wire frame bent beyond retrieval, you may not be able to remedy the problem.

Will Pepeny fit?

Q: Can I use a Pepeny on a stroller that does not have a canopy or hood?
A: You may be able to attach it so that some protection is given to your child. But we do not recommend this as you will not be able to adjust it to the positions needed to maximize protection.
We recommend that you purchase a shade that can be attached to your stroller and that provides support for the Pepeny.

Q: Will the Pepeny fit my XYZ pushchair?
A: We have not found a pushchair that it does not fit. Although pushchairs with a high handle at the front may restrict the inherent adjustability to maximize UVR protection. If you are buying your Pepeny from a very good retailer, they will let you try a Pepeny on your stroller to check.
For your information we have detailed a list of strollers that accommodate the Pepeny (see below), but this list is not exclusive. There are many others (including small, collapsible strollers, for easy travel) with a hood or canopy where the Pepeny is essential for good shade for your baby.

Q: Can I use my Pepeny on my baby’s car seat?
A: Many mothers have told us that he Pepeny can also be used on forward facing car seats! The advantage here is that your baby can even be protected from UVR coming through the car windows. Yes, glass allows UVR through! But do ensure that the Pepeny is firmly tied to the car seat and all ties are away from inquisitive fingers.

Where can I get a Pepeny?

Q: I can’t find a local retailer where I can buy a Pepeny. Can you help?
A: The world is very large and we get inquiries from Peru to Poland; Japan to Jordan; Israel to India. In fact, whenever anyone becomes aware of Pepeny, we are asked where it can be purchased! If your pram, pushchair or stroller has a canopy or hood the Pepeny should be easily attachable. Large vehicles, such as Joggers and Side-by-Side pushchairs (TWIN strollers) will need the Extra Large Pepeny.
When you purchase a stroller/pushchair or pram made by the following manufacturers please ensure that there is a canopy/hood.

Some manufacturers are designing the strollers with hoods that can be pulled forward and provide sun protection, but these may unnecessarily inhibit air flow. So please choose carefully.
